Blind spot is term many are not familiar with, however blind spots essentially mean ‘an area where a person’s view is obstructed’ thus this spot leaves them vulnerable. Every leadership has such blind spots but leaders tend to have more blind spots than others because they are in a position of power where they get to guide and control others. To put in simple words the blind spot of the leader will not just harm the leader but also the business or organization he/ she is from and the people following it.

What are the blind spots for leaders?

Leadership is a broad concept and the work of a leader encompasses many facets thus creating many blind spots. The bigger the leader is the more dangerous the blind spots can be. But usually, there are a few common blind spots for leaders and those are:

1. Effect of bad attitude:

As the American motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar once said “Your attitude, not your aptitude, determines your altitude.” You must always follow this meaningful saying, when you are a leader you are in a place of power so if you have a bad or harsh attitude then it is not only going to affect your leadership but it is going to affect the whole organization.

When you are cordial and attentive towards your employees or followers then you will understand their problems better thus help them with it, this will not only make them happy but it will also help in the progress of the organization. Do not allow your bad attitude to frag you, your employee, and the organization down.

2. Understand the consequences of prejudice:

Prejudice can prove to be a blind spot that can take away the power of leadership from you. Prejudice doesn’t just include racism but also making decision without understanding or gaining complete knowledge about the issue. Therefore you must first know the issue in and out before you make the decision.

3. Tolerating “good enough”:

We become the best by doing the best, so as a leader you must encourage your subordinates to their best and not adjust with ‘good enough’.

4. Doing it alone:

Every organization blooms due to a team, no person can help develop the organization, therefore, you must completely destroy this blind spot otherwise you might find yourself in a pickle.

These are just a few blind spots for a leader, there are many more.

Why you must pay attention to these blind spots?

These blind spots may seem insignificant at the moment but they can have a lasting effect on your leadership and the whole organization. Being a leader it is your duty to help and protect your subordinates. How will you do this if you yourself are vulnerable to these blind spots? Rise above and become a great leader by avoiding and succeeding in your blind spots. When you do so, you will see the positive effect it has had on your leadership skills, your employee, and the whole organization.
